Urgent Message from ISB – School Closure Thursday and Friday

$

0

Dear ISB Community,

The Ministry of Education has ordered schools in Bangkok and the Greater Bangkok area (including Nonthaburi) to close for the next two days (Thursday 31st January and Friday 1st February) due to concerns about rising pollution levels.

Pollution levels on campus at ISB are currently well within acceptable levels. However, we must comply with this directive and close school for Thursday and Friday.

Given that over 80 student athletes from IASAS schools are currently en route today to participate in IASAS tennis at ISB, we will continue with the IASAS tennis competition (Thursday through Saturday). As always with pollution levels and athletics, we will carefully monitor readings and, following our ISB guidelines, make any necessary adjustments.

However, all other events planned to take place on campus at ISB on Thursday and Friday (31st January to 1st February) will be cancelled as well as all school trips into Bangkok (for athletics, cultural and other learning events).

Notes:

  • This afternoon’s activities will take place as it is too late to cancel them and make alternative transportation arrangements.
  • Any ES students must be accompanied by an adult supervisor appointed by the family in order to come on campus Thursday through Sunday.
  • At this stage, events scheduled to take place on Saturday and Sunday at ISB will take place.
  • Our assumption at the moment is that the Grade 8 trip to Chiang Mai scheduled for next week will take place.
  • In regards to BISAC events on Saturday, we will email those involved when we know more

Should anything change, we will notify our community via SMS, email, and our ISB website.

At this stage we will not be implementing our virtual school (online learning) provisions. However, if further closures take place we will communicate about home learning provisions at that time.

If anyone has any questions or concerns, please contact any of us listed below:

Andrew Davies (Head of School): andrewd@isb.ac.th

Mark Hevland (Director of Risk Management) markh@isb.ac.th

Mark Jaspers (Associate Athletics Director) markj@isb.ac.th

Between the Visual Arts and Invention Centers there were over a hundred participants and observers involved in last Saturday’s Art Studio Saturday and the Steel Panthers’ “Scrimmage in Siam” VEX practice session for next week’s “The Battle in Bangkok” at NIST. Creativity and design thinking are at the core of what ISB believes all students need to live enriched lives and in turn to enrich the lives and communities around them. The Arts and Design at ISB. Simply amazing!

Women in Leadership (WIL NextGen) program – Feb. 13, 2019

CanCham’s flagship Women in Leadership (WIL NextGen) program – Feb. 13, 2019: https://canchamthailand.org/event/wil2019/  is a great opportunity to come network and share best practises with a targeted group of high-level women executives and entrepreneurs.

We have a fantastic panel confirmed with top executives from Unilever, L’oreal and Google, as well as supermodel and activist Cindy Bishop.  All of them should attract a lot of attention, and provide great insights. The event will be even more interactive and engaging as in previous years, with TED Talks, interactive luncheon discussions and small group mentoring sessions. We expect 300 participants this year. The event grew by more then 70% last year so we have real momentum and will provide a real value to ISB administrators, teachers and parents.

The event program will also, once again, includes the CSR element: “WIL Inspired Programme” where participants can sponsor the ticket of a young female student (leader in the making) to attend and inspire them.  The Will Inspired element was a much appreciated component of the program last year and several organizations bought corporate tables just so they could position their attendance and learning/engagement as a CSR initiative for their organizations.

On February 12th and 13th, 142 Grade 5 students will head to the stage to enact a dramatization of the Caribbean Folk Tale, “The Cat and The Rat!” This fun, tropical show is not to be missed! Students have contributed to editing the script, choreography and sound as well as working on the costume design, stage make-up and set design!

BUT THAT’S NOT ALL – There will be live music, that has been produced by our Grade 5 students who have carefully studied traditional Caribbean dance and Calypso music for a fully authentic and original production. There will be an interactive student exhibition in the Chevron Theatre relating to the French post-impressionist painter Henri Rousseau.

Do not miss this phenomenal production, which will prove to be an audio visual sensation!
